Who are eligible
Individuals who have fulfilled HKSQ requirements stated herein, and are members of HKSQ in good standing, are eligible to apply for registration under this Scheme.
On approval of the registration, a certificate will be issued to the applicant, and the registration needs to be re-certified on a tri-annual basis.
How to be certified
(A) By successful completion of the certificate course entitled “Quality Management for Laboratory” organized by HKSQ
Individuals who had, in previous 5 years, attended HKSQ’s Certificate Course on Quality Management for Laboratory, passed its examination, and with 3 years of related laboratory experience*, can apply for registration as Certified Laboratory Quality Specialist (HKSQ).
(B) By Exemption
Individuals who had, in previous 5 years, successfully completed a course accredited by HKSQ’s Accreditation Board under this Scheme, and with 3 years of related laboratory experience*, can apply for registration as Certified Laboratory Quality Specialist (HKSQ).

(C) By Individual Assessment
Individuals who had, in previous 5 years, successfully completed a course that is claimed to be equivalent to the certificate course on “Quality Management for Laboratory” organized by HKSQ, and with 3 years of related laboratory experience*, can apply for registration as Certified Laboratory Quality Specialist (HKSQ) through individual assessment.
* The 3-year related laboratory experience should be verified by company letter(s).
In cases (A), (B) and (C) above, the applicant has to be an individual member (student members excluded) of HKSQ in good standing when he/she applies for certification registration.
An HKSQ Certificate will be issued to successful applicants and they will be automatically registered for three years as Certified Laboratory Quality Specialist (HKSQ), or CLabQS (HKSQ) in abbreviation, and their names will be listed on HKSQ’s website.
If an individual only fulfills the academic requirement stipulated in (A), (B) or (C) above, such as having passed the examination of HKSQ’s Certificate Course on Quality Management for Laboratory, but does not have three years of relevant laboratory experience, he/she will be qualified as Provisional Laboratory Quality Specialist (HKSQ) or Provisional LabQS (HKSQ), and his/her name will be listed as such on HKSQ’s website.
Certified Laboratory Quality Specialists (HKSQ) and Provisional Laboratory Quality Specialists (HKSQ) must be individual HKSQ members. The certification registration will expire automatically when the holder ceases to be an individual member of HKSQ.

How to be re-certified
Certified Laboratory Quality Specialists (HKSQ) and Provisional Laboratory Quality Specialists whose registration will expire in six months’ time can apply for re-certification. In order to be re-certified, the applicant must (1) have accumulated 6 continuing professional development (CPD) units in the past three years, and (2) be an individual member of the Society for the past three years.
Recertification Form and CPD Log Sheet
A registrant under this Scheme who is not re-certified before the expiration date of the registration will be de-registered. Applications for reinstatement of the qualification are regarded as new applications for registration.

Fees
The fees for certification and re-certification are subject to review by HKSQ from time to time.
(A) Certification Fee
- Applicants who have successfully completed HKSQ’s Certificate Course on “Quality Management for Laboratory” – free of charge for the first application
- Applications for CLabQS or Provisional CLabQS by exemption – HKD300 per application
- Applications for CLabQS or Provisional CLabQS through individual assessment ¡V HKD600 per application
- Applications for upgrade from Provisional CLabQS to CLabQS – HKD 300 per application
